Hulu - Windows 7 - XBox 360

Alright - like the title says: im gathering some information in regards to setting up Hulu to get it directly on my XBox 360. I know this has been done on vista and i "shouldnt" see that much of difference in windows  but you never know. Below are some links to get started - add this on top of everything else that the 360 does - we do netflix as well - and there is slowly no need to have a cablebox in that room anymore.

Scribefire and Drupal

Been looking for a desktop publisher for the mac for sometime now and have run across Ecto, MarsEdit and MacJournal. So far i have not liked the experience or the aesthetics brought out by any of these apps for the mac. Considering the beauty of all the other mac apps that are out there, I'm disappointed in the offerings or lack there of.

Well low and behold is a solution that i was using in the past so I am familiar with it - it is ScribeFire. Now i know its not a true desktop app - but it coincides with Firefox - which is pretty much open all the time and is compatible with my drupal blog as well as able to post to another blog that i use (nepaern.com). I do have the ability to post polls, forums, books, pages and stories as well. All within a seperate tab (rather than the split window) since i think it gives it more look of a real app. Now i could definitely be missing an app by mac that is the end all be all for desktop publishing - but it does have to offer a ton of features to be paid for or be as slick as Scribefire. Anyone have one that i should try out? please leave a comment below. Links below to the sites as well. Conficker and OpenDNS

Just wanted to post a quicky up here for those looking for clues on how to protect themselves from that pesky worm that got released into the wild today.

Well here is another article from Maximum PC discussing the conficker worm and how to get rid of it if you do get infected (hint: have another PC or Laptop ready for downloading files and creating bootable CDs/DVDs).

good luck - maybe its just a hoax after all - who knows?

If anyone has some info please leave some comments!

Well one more UPDATE, as this "worm" continues to bail out like an over predicted winter storm, from my boys over at slashdot.org - a simple chart to tell you if you do have the Conficker virus.

Networking

Well in designing the new office that we were moving to - we had a major project to develop an internal network for our core internal employees. We decided to go with CAT6 for all the wiring, ensuring us a smooth transition into the gigabit network where our colleagues could move internal data 10x's faster than our old office. In thinking this, i did believe the transition was going to be more complicated for the IT Guys involved, and I would be completly wrong. Overall - from punching down the patch panel through hooking up each node on the network, it was rather easy - too easy.

Going through the whole CAT6 pain of trying to convince the right people that it is the best option was by far the best move. We are now able to move data at much higher rates thus improving work efficiency - god i sound awful. All in all its one way to appreciate the things that were completed and people use consistently throughout the day.

Qik and Jailbreaking

On this site, before i switched over to drupal, i wrote i was a fan of jailbreaking my iPhone. I jailbroke 1.1.4 (that was when i first got my iPhone) and i had no real issues with that version ever. Upgrading everything through 2.1 though has been a different story. I find that 2.1 quite frankly, sucks and the fact that Apple can go out and say that they have fixed such and such issues is garbage. They have not - i still have crashes - slow response times in the keyboard amongst many other PITAs.

Well i rejailbroke my iPhone while being on 2.1 (amazingly easy once again) but without the help of zi-blahblah (i dont want to name names).I am/was in the process of using QIK - a realtime video capture program on Cydia (flixwagon is another). After using Qik a little now it fails on startup - to which i have tried everything to get this back to a working state to no avail. Thats why i switched over to the workings of Flixwagon - same premise but different name.

I figured out the problem with the sluggishness of my iPhone - having all those themes installed makes the phone refresh every 15 seconds looking for changes within the system which in turn uses up precious RAM and harddrive space. After i removed all that stuff i am back to the more natural (not the best) state of the iphone.

Bad Reception - No Reception - No Problem

Over at the Washington Post theres an exclusive running about McCain - Verizon - AT&T. Im not going to get into the whole deal here but it is damn good read if you get the chance.

DimDim not Dimsum - Free Web Conferencing

0I was just catching up on my podcasts and one of the new shows on revision3's site is Hak5. Which is basically (and no offense to the parties involved at all) is a low-fi version of the true classic TSS.

Well they just discussed a "free" alternative to Webex. Back when i was working in NYC, we used this pretty much all the time when we did not have the time to schedule a meeting to a client in need of some training. While all the bells and whistles were fantastic, you have to pay cold hard cash for it.

Now comes a bright and shining FREE web conferencing, open source app that we all can use to setup conferences, meetings and what not for the SOHO and Small Businesses out there.

Ready to Rock

After a long time of trying to get wordpress app on the iPhone to try and work with my site (even though i use drupal now) i finally found a way. Basically i knew that the wordpress app should work because i had my Blog API set with the right permissions and what not only to get an error.

After googling a bunch of different strings with

"iphone" "drupal" "app"

i was getting nothing at all. Then i remembered that i downloaded the shozu app and VOILA it worked.

Im stoked that i can continue to post pics or whatever else i want straight from the iPhone on location wherever i am.

Here is the link to drupal.org article with shozu

Drupal - even with its quirks - is so much cleaner for a site as a whole, than wordpress could ever be.
